RADIATION SHIELDING GLASS
Radiation protection windows are used to shield X-ray and gamma radiation in healthcare, industry and in research facilities. VISITEK has 2 types of radiation protection glass, RD30 and RD50. Shielding requirements expressed in lead equivalence can range from less than one mm lead to several hundred mm. Both types are intended for internal use. For external use, radiation protection glass is placed in insulated glazing.
RD30 RADIATION SHIELDING GLASS
RD30 is a drawn glass equivalent to 0.5 mm Pb at 75 kV. This glass can be hardened. RD30 can also be laminated with other glass to achieve better fire, sound or safety properties. RD30 is available in all dimensions up to 2350×1500 mm.
RD50 RADIATION SHIELDING GLASS
RD50 is a cast glass that can be laminated to achieve higher lead equivalence than is possible with a single pane of glass. RD50 can also be laminated with other glass to achieve better fire, sound or safety properties.
Areas of Use
Radiation protection windows are used to shield X-ray and gamma radiation in healthcare, industry and in research facilities. Examples of uses for radiation protection glass include PET-CT, Spect CT and dental X-rays. We manufacture radiation protection frames in aluminium, stainless steel, lacquered steel or wood.
Care and Maintenance
The surface of lead glass is slightly softer than normal flat glass, which is why extra care should be taken when handling. The surface of radiation protection glass is sensitive to acidic and alkaline substances. Make sure that seals do not contain acidic or alkaline substances such as acetic acid or ammonia. Water, non-abrasive detergent, spirits and aqueous solutions of cerium oxide should be used when cleaning radiation protection glass; acidic and alkaline agents are unsuitable.
